What mammography is

Mammography is a specialized X-ray of the breast used to look for breast changes. It may be advised for screening or when symptoms are present.

Symptoms not to ignore

Breast lump, nipple discharge, skin dimpling, persistent pain, swelling or change in nipple position should be assessed promptly by a doctor.

What happens during the test

The breast is gently compressed for a short time to obtain clear images. Tell the technologist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have implants or have prior surgery.

Bring previous reports

Old mammography or sonography films/reports help comparison and can improve the value of the new report.
